The Platinum Jubilee Commission

The Platinum Jubilee Commission

To mark the year of Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee, The Incorporation of Goldsmiths would like to commission a contemporary piece of Silverware for the table. The chosen piece of Silverware will become part of The Incorporation of Goldsmiths permanent collection. The Scottish Goldsmiths Trust are delighted to have been asked to assist the Incorporation in selecting a silversmith for the commission. The only stipulation of the design brief is that the commission must incorporate a prominent Edinburgh Assay Office feature hallmark, which must include The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee mark.

The Incorporation of Goldsmiths trades as Edinburgh Assay Office, who for over 550 years have been the hallmarking authority in Scotland, where precious metals are tested and hallmarked with the famous Edinburgh Castle hallmark. To celebrate Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee, the Assay Offices across the UK are able to add the Platinum Jubilee commemorative mark to the regular hallmark during this celebratory year.

The Platinum Jubilee mark, designed by Thomos Fattorini Ltd, depicts an orb, and reflects the traditional fineness mark for platinum in 2022. Her Majesty The Queen is the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, seventy years of service, having ascended to the throne in 1952.
