Recruitment for Board of Trustees

The Scottish Goldsmiths Trust is seeking several new Trustees with a range of skills.

The Scottish Goldsmiths Trust (SGT) has a dynamic programme of opportunities, exhibitions and awards. The work of the SGT focuses on promoting and supporting the education, art and craft of Scotland’s gold and silversmithing heritage and trade. In recent years, our work has expanded with the creation of the Ethical Making Programme to support the adoption of responsible and sustainable practices in Jewellery and Silversmithing. The SGT also curates the Millennium Silver collection, Silver of the Stars and the historical archives of The Incorporation of Goldsmiths.

We will be appointing up to seven Trustees who will be expected to serve a three-year term on the Board, after which there is an opportunity to renew for one more term, resulting in a maximum term of six years. We welcome applications from those who can bring knowledge, experience, and expertise to the Board in this exciting new era for the SGT in the following areas:

  • Silversmithing and Jewellery Higher Education

  • Climate change and sustainability

  • Fundraising

  • Contemporary Craft Curation

  • Community engagement

The Board will meet five times a year in Edinburgh (and currently by Zoom) and attend our AGM. Trustees are also encouraged to attend SGT events when possible. All Trustees volunteer their time to the charity, but reasonable travel expenses are reimbursed.

The Scottish Goldsmiths Trust wants to diversify the voices on the Board and would therefore particularly welcome applications from individuals who have been historically underrepresented on Boards due to age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, faith or belief, or socio-economic background.

Candidates will have a passion for jewellery and silversmithing and act as key ambassadors to a wide range of external stakeholders. Candidates will demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion.

For further information, and details of how to apply please contact ebba@scottishgoldsmithstrust.org (Ebba Goring) with 'Trustee Application' in the subject line and you will be sent the Board Recruitment Pack.

The deadline is Friday July 23rd at 17:00.
