GemSet Competition 2023
GemSet Competition 2023
Our Digital & Communications Officer, Eda Obermanns, recently spent the day with the team at The Scottish Gemmological Association on the judging panel for the annual GemSet Competition. It was a wonderful day, and inspiring and encouraging to see the incredible work submitted by students across Scotland.
The Scottish Gemmological Association works to promote and develop an interest in gemstones and gemmology education in Scotland. The Association offers an annual jewellery design competition specifically intended to encourage the use of gem materials in the work of students at all levels, full-time or part-time, in the jewellery and design departments of the Scottish Art Schools and Further Education Colleges.
The brief for the competition was to design and make an item of wearable gem-set jewellery which emphasises/shows the gemstones off to their best, and pieces were considered on the following criteria:
Emphasis of the attributes of the gemstone/s
Aesthetic design and creativity
Technical ability and quality of fabrication
Professional application of stone setting techniques
Wearability
Congratulations to all of this year’s winners and highly commended submissions!
